            WHAT WAS THE WARSAW UPRISING?


         It was an operation by the Polish resistance Home Army against the Nazi Germany
 to liberate Warsaw. General Tadeusz "Bór" Komorowski, who was the PHA commander,
 decided to start an uprising in the face of coming  the Soviet Red Army. Starting the uprising
 was connected with exposuring the Polish Underground State.

             The command wanted to liberate a city before the entry of the Russians. The uprising
 was a part of a nationwide plan - Operation "Tempest", which was aimed at seizing control of
 cities and areas occupied by the Germans while they were preparing their defenses against the
 Soviet Red Army. Polish underground civil authorities wanted to take power before the arrival
 of the Soviets.
